It’s a little bit of a joke among Blue Mage players that one of this caster’s spells is ‘stab them with a knife’.
While there are tons of fantastical looking magical effects in Blue Mage’s arsenal, there are also plenty of spells that deal physical damage. And for one particular bonus in the weekly Masked Carnivale challenge you’re going to need them.
Let’s Get Physical
The condition for this bonus is “used only physical-type actions” which is quite simple but actually very restrictive.
As you might expect, you are not allowed to use any magical attacks, which includes most spells that have an elemental type and also the ‘unaspected’ skills like Song of Torment, Rose of Destruction, Nightbloom, etc.
You also aren’t allowed to use most non-damaging magic spells. Everything has to be a physical type spell. So nothing like White Wind, Moon Flute, Off-guard, or even Whistle. The one exception is Sticky Tongue which is classified as a blunt physical spell, though it does no damage.
Curiously, you are still allowed to use some role abilities but not others: Lucid Dreaming, Swiftcast, and Surecast are accepted. Addle and Sleep are not allowed and will fail the bonus.
Recommended Spells
You have a number of choices for a filler damage spell. #15 Sharpened Knife or #105 Goblin Punch are easy to move and weave with, but require you to be in melee range.
#55 Abyssal Transfixion is an easy to grab single target ranged spell.
#101 Peripheral Synthesis and #112 Deep Clean are strong AoE ranged options if you need to hit multiple enemies. If you haven’t learned those yet you can use the slightly weaker #5 Drill Cannons.
For more damage and speed you should bring whatever cooldowns you’ve learned among #46 Mountain Buster, #80 J Kick, #81 Triple Trident, #102 Both Ends, #103 Phantom Flurry, and #118 Winged Reprobation
You can also finish off the enemy at a low %HP with #8 Final Sting. Since you can’t use the usual buffing tools (Moon Flute, Whistle) it won’t hit as hard, so if you’re accustomed to using this finisher you might want to get the final enemy a little lower than usual to be safe.
