I’m a fan of Blue Mage content primarily because I like collecting all the different spells and enjoying the variety of new animations and effects. Of course I also enjoy collecting my weekly rewards including gil, allied seals, and tomestones of poetics by completing weekly challenges.
The easiest challenges to do are solo ones in the Masked Carnivale, which are identified by stars next to the names of those levels. You can also view them in your timers menu (Ctrl+U by default).
Some of these levels will involve special restrictions, so I’m going to suggest the easiest way to complete these and earn your weekly rewards, starting with one odd restriction called ‘Four-Faced’.
Four-Faced
The condition for this bonus is “used four or more unique actions that are fired from the face”. This condition does not prevent you from using non-face actions, so feel free to also use whatever’s in your usual arsenal of spells.
There’s a similar bonus called Eight-Faced which is the same thing but eight actions instead of four. That one doesn’t seem to show up in your weekly target conditions though – at least I’ve never seen it.
“Fired from the face” refers to the spell animation that plays out for the spell, where it looks like your character lunging forward with their upper body while throwing their arms behind them.
Recommended Spells
My advice for Four-Faced should work for everybody since it includes four easy spells that every Blue Mage should already have by the time they’re doing the Masked Carnivale.
Every Blue Mage has #10 Glower (Lightning) by the time they unlock the Masked Carnivale because it’s required for the job quest.
#24 Flying Sardine is one of the first spells most Blue Mages are advised to grab to help with power levelling. Plus it lets you interrupt specific enemy attacks so it’s practically required for a number of other Masked Carnivale stages.
#28 Bad Breath is learned from low level mobs and it’s useful to have for both BLU tanking and for another weekly target condition called ‘Enfeeble Me Tender’.
#31 Sticky Tongue is easy to grab from very low level overworld enemies.
You can swap Glower out for #109 Breath of Magic (level 80 totem) which does much more damage and is unaspected.
If you aren’t allowed to use Lightning spells because of a ‘Mastery of (Element)’ condition but you’re not level 80 yet, #27 The Look is easy to grab solo from a level 45 levequest in Mor Dhona.
For completion’s sake, here are all the spells that qualify for Four-Faced and Eight-Faced:
#2 Flamethrower (Fire)
#3 Aqua Breath (Water)
#10 Glower (Lightning)
#14 Level-5 Petrify
#24 Flying Sardine (Physical Blunt)
#25 Snort
#27 The Look
#28 Bad Breath
#31 Sticky Tongue
#37 Ink Jet
#52 Northerlies (Ice)
#53 Electrogenesis (Lightning)
#69 Perpetual Ray
#74 Reflux (Lightning)
#75 Devour
#93 Blaze (Ice)
#94 Mustard Bomb (Fire)
#109 Breath of Magic
#119 Laser Eye
#123 Apokalypsis
Obviously if your favourite spell is somewhere on the list and you use it all the time anyway then just use that in place of one of my recommendations. The beauty of Blue Mage is that you have plenty of options, so have fun and good luck in the Masked Carnivale!
